Biography
Predrag Goll was born in Pisarovina in 1931. At the Academy of Fine Arts, he graduated in painting, class of Đ. Tiljak, and did post-graduate work in the class of A. Mezdjić. Up to 1963 he was a freelance artist.
From 1963 on he worked in the Gallery of Fine Arts in Osijek, as curator - restorer; in 1968 he moved to the B. Maslarić Culture Centre in Osijek, where he founded and managed the Zodiac Gallery. From 1975 to 1991 he was director of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Osijek. In this period he put on a number of well - received exhibitions of local and foreign artists, and is particularly to be credited with having started the Slavonian Biennial and the Ivo Kerdić Memorial - a triennial of contemporary Croatian medal-making and small - scale sculpture.
He was the initiator and editor of the gallery’s book series Small Monographs. He also launched the publication of large monographs, and his major publishing venture was the Monograph of the Osijek Gallery of Fine Arts, marking the 55th year of its work (1941-1986).
Goll also took part in the foundation of art and painting colonies - Sava, Slavonski Brod; Buk, the Baranja art colony in Beli Manastir and Slavno Proljeće, Ozalj. He was one of the originators of the foundation of the Meštrović Memorial Gallery in Vrpolje. From 1992 to 1997 he worked in the Museum of Brodsko Posavlje in Slavonski Brod, as head of the gallery department, and the Ružić Gallery.
As artist himself, he won a number of prizes and exhibited at many important shows at home and abroad, and for his museum-gallery work won the Osijek Liberation Prize, 1982; City of Osijek Seal, 1988; and the "Pavao Ritter Vitezović" Prize of the Croatian Museum Association in 1988. He is a member of HDLU.
