Department of Archeology was established in 1877, as one among the Museum's first departments. It consists of three large units: The Prehistoric Collection, the Antique Collection, and the Migration of the Peoples & Early Middle Ages Collection.
Each unit in turn consists of several either smaller or larger collections.
Among the prehistoric collections, we should like to single out the following:
- Collection of Anthropomorphic and Zoomorphic Sculptures
- Collection of Bronze Age Anthropomorphic Sculptures
- Collection of Finds from the Late Bronze Age
- Collection of Bronze Jewelry
- Collection of Celtic/La Tcne Finds from Osijek
- Collection of Prehistoric Ceramic Vessels from Osijek (from the Neolithic to the end of the Early Iron Age)
- Collection of Prehistoric Ceramic Vessels from Sarvas (from the Neolithic to the end of the Late Iron Age)
Prehistoric collections contain finds from Osijek and its surroundings, Baranya, the whole of northeastern Slavonia, as well as from some other sites in Eastern Croatia.
Among the antique collections, we should like to single out the following:
- Collection of Epigraphic Monuments
- Collection of Stone Sculptures
- Collection of Gems and Gold Jewelry
- Collection of Glass
- Collection of Miniature Bronze and Ceramic Sculptures
- The terra sigillata Collection
- Collection of Bronze Vessels
The antique collections primarily contain finds from Osijek (Mursa), as well as from the entire northeastern Slavonia and Baranya, and some other sites outside this area.
The Migration of the Peoples & Early Middle Ages collections are as follows:
- Collection of Jewelry, Warrior & Horsemen Gear, and Ceramics from the period of The Migration of the Peoples
- A Collection of the Bijelo Brdo Culture
These collections include finds from Osijek, as well as from the entire northeastern Slavonia and Baranya.
