The Essekiana Native Collection is a collection of local printed material i.e. the Osijek Native Collection
It has been collected systematically since 1903 and contains everything that has been either printed or published in Osijek, as well as printed material written by authors from Osijek or about Osijek. The collection is nearly completed, particularly as of the beg. of the 20th c., when mandatory copy donations have been introduced for all local printing-offices, publishers, and authors.
Essekiana has been classified as per material types: Books, journals, papers, calendars, posters, small print, postcards, art maps... The entire 1742-1978 book holdings have been properly processed and published (formerly in several editions - Bösendorfer, Malbasa) by JAZU /the former Yugoslav Academy of Art & Science/ - Series C, Croatian bibliography, Vol. 6, 7, M. Malbasa, the Osijek bibliography. There has been a lot written about Essekiana, and a number of both single and group exhibitions organized featuring this particular collection.
The Museum's exhibits have been included in all of its so far permanent collections, particularly those from the Biedermeier period, along with printing materials from the Franciscan printing-office (1735-1774), the Divald dynasty (1775-1857), and the Secession style, as separate units.
