The Artistic Crafts Department of the Museum of Slavonia has been constituted as an independent department since 1951.
The Department's most significant collection is the Collection of Furniture, encompassing items from Renaissance to Secession and Modern Art. Of particular importance for the local art history is the designer bedroom made in Osijek in 1846 in Biedermeier style. China, ceramics, and glass collections also include a variety of high quality exhibits originating from European workshops from the 18th to the 20th c. The Collection of Clocks and Watches constitutes another unit, encompassing some 60 items differing in terms of style and type.
The Department includes 2,362 inventoried items distributed among the following collections:
- Collection of Furniture
- Collection of Clocks and Watches
- Collection of Ceramics and China
- Glass Collection
- Metal Collection
- Collection of Clothes & Accessories
- Collection of Paintings
- Varia
The above collections reflect the aesthetic interests, purchase power, and level of equipment of Osijek's bourgeois classes, since they originate mostly from local traders' and craftsmen's mansions. Some of the most valuable items come from the Pejacevic family manor-house in Nasice, and the one owned by the Normann-Prandau family in Valpovo. |
