The Museum library was established the same year as the Museum - in 1877. Since then, it has been supplied with local, regional, national, and Slavic editions, depending on interests prevailing in individual periods. Its holdings include both museum exhibits and expert, mostly humanistic bibliography (always in keeping with the Museum's scope of activities and research projects).
Initial exhibits were provided by local donors and book collectors: Sedlakovic, Nuber, Friml-Antunovic...
The basic holdings consist of the following units: Croatian books and periodicals; 15th c. books; 16th c. books; 17th c. books; 18th c. books; Biedermeier period; Secession period; rarities; copies signed by their authors; Ex libris; Devotional bibliography; Musical collection; Theatrical collection...
The collections featured in all the so far Museum's permanent shows, as well as in some occasional thematic exhibitions ("Biedermeier in Osijek", "Secession in Osijek", "Osijek around 1900", "150 Years of the Central Croatian Cultural and Publishing Society", "Ex libris"...).
The so far collection managers since 1877 were as follows: Andrija Kodric, Ferdo Z. Miler, Vjekoslav Celestin, Dr. Franjo Buntak, Dr. Josip Bösendorfer; and, since 1941, librarians: Dr. Danica Pinterovic, Marija Malbasa, Vesna Buric, MSc, Marina Vinaj.
