a view of a part of the Contemporary Croatian Artists Collection on permanent display donated by Branislav Glumac
Two larger rooms of the Municipal Museum contain, as a part of the permanent collection, a collection of contemporary Croatian artists donated in 1982 by Branislav Glumac, the novelist who currently lives in Zagreb, but was born in Virovitica. The collection contains works by different generations of artists following various styles. These rich and diversified holdings include 120 paintings, sculptures, graphics, and drawings selected by the collector and donor Branislav Glumac. From the older and middle generation of authors, we can mention, for example, Ivo Rezek, Marino Tartaglia, Ksto Hegedusic, Zlatko Prica, Vasilije Jordan, Miljenko Stancic, as well as Nives Kavuric Kurtovic, Ljubomir Stahov, Dubravka Babic, Mersad Berber, Dimitrije Popovic. The collection also includes pieces by renowned Croatian naive art representatives, such as Ivan and Josip Generalic, Ivan Rabuzin, Mijo Kovacic, Ivan Lackovic Croata. As regards sculptors, we can mention Ivan Sabolic, Branko Ruzic, Stipe Sikirica, Stanko Jancic, Marija Ujevic, Zlatko Zlatic, Edita Schubert. We should also mention the works by the local authors (from Virovitica): Nikola Tricko, Branka Marceta Greguric, Antun Ibriks, Vilim Solc and sculptor Josip Simic.
"... through this donation/gallery, I want to stand up against the aesthetic poverty threatening us..."
Virovitica is my inner homeland. My spiritual, literary, and sentimental roots are there. I have drawn many precious little things from it for my later rests! Through this donation, I would like to buy back a little piece of my unrepeatable childhood dreaming away in the Slavonian Pannonian valley. In the name of the unforgettable days of long ago, I bequeath to some future generations these fragments of an overall mosaic of Beauty...
