Katica Benc Bošković was born in Ćilipi in 1927. She completed high school studies in Dubrovnik in 1946, and the same year enrolled in the Zagreb University Faculty of Philosophy, reading a group of subjects including ethnology and ethnography, Yugoslav literature, classical archaeology and Croatian with Old Slavonic.
From 1954, she was employed in the Ethnographic Museum, Zagreb.
During her many years of work she took part in ethnological research in the Dubrovnik areas, Hrvatsko Zagroje and Međimurje. She investigated the area of the material, intangible and social culture, textile handicrafts, carnival masks and wedding customs of Konavle, Mljet and the Dubrovnik coastal area. She published the results of her research in specialised periodicals, papers, on the radio and television.
On the basis of many years of research in the Konavle areas, in 1980 she obtained a doctorate with a dissertation entitled Ethnological Characteristics of Textile Handicrafts in Konavle, at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. She was a member of many associations - the Association of Ethnologists, the Association of Folklorists and a member of the Council of the Kumrovec Memorial Park, Staro Selo, and a member of the council of the Ethnographic Museum Zagreb.
She published six books, wrote numerous pieces for various specialised and scholarly publications and took part in many conferences and symposia in the discipline.
She devised many exhibition set-ups: in the Ethnographic Museum Zagreb, in the Ethnography Department of the Museum of the Peasant Revolts in Gornja Stubica, in Mohacs (Hungary), Bytom (Poland) and Barcelona.
